"Ah, greenleaf", mused a cat she-cat. Paw pads scraped over rocks and fallen limbs, as she tried to get to the river. "The Clan cats and rouges should be out and about at this hour. Perfect for hunting," she snickered. Once the river was in sight, she slowed down and sniffed the air. Strong odors of fish and birds were abundant, as was a faint smell of cat, clan and rouge. Layla inhaled and started to smile on her exhalation. "One is close by. Tom, strong, and very tasty," she meowed as she licked her maw. Sure enough, a big black tom was padding along. His pelt was scruffy and scared, possibly from all the encounters with the Clans. "Show time," Layla muttered.
Layla closed her eyes and focused on her energy. She focused on a small howling ringing in her ears, but then it got louder and louder. Finally, Layla let a howl out from her throat and let the senses of a canine engulf her. Ripping and shreading echoed around her as her black striped gray fur became coarser and longer. Her small, compact face expanded outward into a long, snout; Layla's tail grew longer and bushier, and her paws grew huge with the rest of her body. She shot open her blue eyes and let out a beautiful howl. Layla the cat was no more, but in her place stood a monstrous gray wolf. Time for dinner, she thought.
Layla suddenly jumped out at the rouge, and swiftly sunk her fangs in the cat's neck. With her wolf fangs, killing was faster and easier. The tom struggled, then went limp. Layla brought the cat over to an old tree and placed him under it. Anyone else have prey? she called in her head. She let out a howl.
